The Health Services Researcher will design and conduct evaluations of Medicaid policy and programs. The ideal candidate will have experience with the design and implementation of quantitative research studies, including analysis of the relationships between the healthcare delivery system design, patient healthcare utilization, spending, population characteristics, provider characteristics, and contextual factors impacting health such as poverty, education, and housing. The primary data sources will include claims/encounter data, public health records, and community-level population files.

The preferred candidate will have experience interacting with clients, leading teams, writing reports, and giving presentations about evaluation findings in clear, non-technical language.  Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Design evaluations of Medicaid and public health initiatives which relate to healthcare access, quality, cost-effectiveness, equity, social determinants of health, and population health. Must be able to assess clients’ information needs and design research studies appropriate to the goals and resources of each project.
  • Design and implement data collection and analysis strategies.
  • Work with project managers to assure deliverables meet deadlines and standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build productive relationships with clinicians, other health professionals, and internal staff.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency with a developed knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint) and an aptitude for acquiring working knowledge of specific software applications such as those found in ambulatory EHRs or other sites that provide health care services. Knowledge of one or more existing ambulatory EHR software packages is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the principles of primary care, maternal and newborn health, population health, and quality improvement.
  • Knowledge of multivariate regression methods and difference-in-difference methods.  
  • Critical and system thinking, and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in health services research, epidemiology, health policy, biostatistics, OR other related field and five (5) years of relevant Medicaid research experience, required or a Doctorate in health services research, epidemiology, health policy, biostatistics, or other related field, and two (2) years of relevant Medicaid research experience, preferred.
  • Experience in quantitative research applied to at least one of these topics: Medicaid policy, healthcare performance improvement, population health, social determinants of health, healthy equity, managed care, or health administration, required.
  • SAS programming experience strongly preferred.

The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. The annualized salary range for this position is $100,000.00 - $135,000.00. Actual salary range and/or hourly rate depends on a variety of factors including experience, education, credentials, location, and budget.
